Back on Texas Time … Almost!

Everybody sing along now …

Just hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring ting tingling too …
Come on, it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you.

Outside the snow is falling and friends are calling “Yee Haw …”

What?

You mean your friends don’t call “Yee Haw?”

Well, mine sure do!

And in a few weeks, my hubby and I [...]

NaNoWriMo Update: We are almost There!

With only two days to go, NaNoWriMo‘ers are working hard to finish their novels … skipping meals, forgetting their children, forgoing TWITTER?!? What kind of craziness is that?

I’m bouncing against the 45,000 word mark. Can I do it?

Can I dig deep into my writer’s soul and find 5,000 more words so I can conquer this [...]

Sila Fridays: Visiting Villaggio Mancuso

In all of the 73,695 hectares that make up La Sila, no village is more enchanting than Villaggio Mancuso. This petite-sized Alpine community is home to 37 or so inhabitants who feast on their homegrown mushrooms and red hot chili peppers - the food, not the rock band.

The village is often one of the first [...]

Celebrating Thanksgiving in Italy: La Festa del Ringraziamento

Of all of the American holidays, none is more important - or more heartbreaking to miss - than Thanksgiving.

My hugely over-populated Catholic family all gathers around the table at my grandparent’s house in Honey Island, Texas - a suburb of the large metropolis of Kountze - and overeats, watches football, catches up on everyone’s latest [...]

How Do You Travel? Getting There vs. Being There

What kind of traveler are you? Are you the kind who likes to travel and enjoys the voyage or the kind who would rather skip “getting there” and would prefer to just “be there” already?

I pondered this question on my recent day trip to the Amalfi Coast, and along with notes on the Cherrye molester, [...]

Basilico Italiano: You Just Can’t Cook Without It

Last week I professed my love for natural Viagra and admitted to adding a pepper - or three - to most of my dishes. But there is another staple that warms my heart and sends me running to the balcony at least once a day.

Ahhh, basilico. Few Italian dishes are complete without it and while [...]

Il Cedro Bed and Breakfast has been open around a year and a half and both my husband and I are in regular contact with many of our past guests. We love hearing how their Italian vacation started and eagerly await their emails so we know how it ended - and we are honored to [...]

Morzeddhu alla Catanzarisi: A Recipe for Morzello

Morzello is a traditional Catanzaresi dish that is served in many local restaurants throughout the area but the best, I’ve heard, is when it is homemade.

According to legend, Morzello, or morzeddhu in dialect, was created when an impoverished mother, widowed and alone, was forced to accept odd jobs to support her hungry children. On Christmas [...]

Sila Fridays: Driving through the Mountains

Il Parco Nazionale della Sila is the largest mountain range in Calabria and encompasses 21 towns, six mountain communities and three provinces - Catanzaro, Cosenza and Crotone.

It is divided into three regions - Sila Grande (in Cosenza), Sila Piccola (in Catanzaro) and Sila Greca (in Crotone).

The highest point in Sila Grande is Botte Donato which [...]
