Un Segno di Dio

Posted by: My Bella Vita on Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Ah, yes…I am one of those people who look for signs all around me. I truly do. I hear them in songs and see them when walking down the street. One million other people may see the same “sign” - but I’m convinced it was sent - to ME.

Case in point. I’d recently completed a 3-month internship at Walt Disney World and was seriously contemplating applying for an advanced position. I only had one weekend to compile a proposal, and was adequately bogged down in last semester of college duties. I asked for a sign.

The next morning, I woke up an hour late, and rushed to get dressed and drive to work. Just as I was parking my car, I heard the song, “Beauty and the Beast,” by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson on a pop station. Now, I know…this may not seem odd to you, but I had never heard this song before. And, never on that radio station. It was, I believe to this day, un segno di Dio.

I spent the next three days compiling my proposal, made the 10-hour roundtrip drive to Austin for the interview, was offered the job, accepted, and moved to Orlando, where I was then offered a job at Disneyland Paris, where I then met my husband…

Ahhhh…..

While this is not the only time I have felt the power of “signs,” it was the most profoundly life-changing.

Remember a few weeks ago when Peppe had that really bad day? You know…the 22,ooo euro day?

That afternoon, as we were driving to get a new coffee machine, we turned off of our street and saw this.

                                                     Rainbows in Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy

And, somehow, I felt a little better.

Happy Love Thursday!

I’m a big believer in signs too, and that rainbow is a great one.

And, um, are you saying Peppe’s a beast or what? ;)

Beautiful rainbow!
I’m a sign person too! Wow, that sign (Beauty and the Beast) was definately almost a “slap upside the head” kinda sign…good thing you listened to it! Amazing story!

I totally agree with you Cherrye! Since I have been planning this impromptu trip to Italy, I keep hearing on the radio, No One, by Alicia Keyes. Pretty much I feel this song is always on when I get in the car for a reason.
“I don’t worry ’cause
Everything’s going to be alright
People keep talking they can say what they like
But all i know is everything’s going to be alright”

love it! a presto amica!

Right on, sista! I’m a believer too. One of the most memorable signs for me was when I was 5 months pregnant with my first-born. I was working at a horrible, slave-driving translation agency and they found a way to fire me before I could go on mat leave. I was so emotional and upset when it happened and wondered if I’d ever be able to find another job. I was lying in bed sobbing to myself when I felt that very first kick. It was my daughter letting me know in her own way that everything was going to be alright. After all, she was on the way.

That’s a great story. Seems like a divine intervention came your way and now you are so happy with Peppe.

The rainbow is a great sign.

What a sweet post! You work for Disney? How cool! I haven’t seen a rainbox in years…

I also look for signs all the time, but interpreting them is something I have trouble with. lol

Ok, major typo, have no idea what a rainbox is. I meant rainbow.

Oh, definitely, it’s always good to have a sign. Like when there is a parking place right in front of your favorite and very busy, Italian restaurant on your birthday. Now, that’s a sign.

Oh, no…thanks, Running. Now, I do, too!!

Tanya, I need those “slaps” upside the head to get it sometimes.

Katie! I love the “everything is going to be alright” songs…they ALWAYS make me feel better!

Grazie, Stacy!
