Take 5, Folks
Happy Ferragosto, friends! Today, August 15 marks two important occasions. First and foremost, it represents the assumption of the Virgin Maria into heaven. Secondly, and not quite so historically - it marks one of the biggest vacation days in Italy. Although many Italians I talked to didn’t even realize the two were related, the dates inevitably coincide for a reason.
If you are sitting at your computer today doing anything other than blogging - BASTA! For those of you not in Bella Italia, you are personally invited to enjoy Ferragosto with us.
But, I must warn you. I am going to have a very busy day.
- Sleep in
- Read a book. No! Not that one. I am going to start a new one.
- Nap
- Read some more…
Che bello!
I’ve mentioned before what a book worm I can be, but, have I mentioned a fantastic new “Book Club” I joined a few months ago? “Sisterhood of the Traveling Books” was created by Shelley and Jessica as a way for avid readers to share their love of the written word - without going broke in the process! The value is multiplied ten-fold for expats like me without access to English-language literature.
Or, if you would rather get the long and short of it on your books before you read them, check out this new website, coming August 27. But, there is more! Click here to join in the pre-party fun and for your chance to win a bag full of books.
And…that’s it, folks! I took five minutes today to write in and let you know about these great readin’ opps and now YOU take (at least) five minutes to enjoy Ferragosto!
Buon divertimento!

Hi Cherrye, I just started reading your blog, and I really enjoy it!
One day I’d like to celebrate Ferragosto in Italy…if I can ever afford to be there in August!
Thanks for the info about the books. I love to read.

Marianne - Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy your contest!
